CapTech & RCS Establish RFID Test Center
CapTech Ventures, Inc. and Richmond Cold Storage Co., Inc. have established an RFID Center to provide RFID Testing Services to companies wishing to comply with Wal-Mart, DOD and other compliance initiatives. The center will use CapTech's TagsWare™ Software Solution to manage readers from over eight manufactures to test a wide array of RFID chip configurations and placements. "With the RCS partnership, CapTech plans to improve TagsWare™ ability to interface with cutting edge WMS applications and operations. Like everyone else in the field, we are testing how tags fit on product, and what workflows must be changed once we can get the right tag on the right item in the right place," says Sandy Williamson, Co Founder and CEO of CapTech. Frank E. Laughon, President and CEO of The Richmond Cold Storage Companies is keenly aware of the customers needs and desires; "With the mandatory RFID compliance dates of retailers looming closer, our customers are beginning to feel the pressure of implementing an RFID program. Most of them are simply not in a position to implement Information Systems changes of this magnitude in such a relatively short period of time. As strategic suppliers, we recognize that we must help them get to compliance level strength quickly."
Both parties are working with large food manufacturers and distributors to test and define effective ways to leverage RFID technology in the Food supply chain. Recently Hamilton Beach Proctor Silex used the center to successfully complete their Wal-Mart compliance testing. The companies are currently scheduling to perform more tests with clients in the food, pharmaceutical and retail industries.
TagsWare™ simplifies the introduction of RFID solutions into the business environment with minimal impact to existing processes. CapTech is collaborating with several partners and RFID chip manufacturers to identify best practices for RFID software development. TagsWare™ software can be downloaded for a 30 day free trial at www.tagsware.com.
RCS is currently involved in establishing mobile operations for "Slap n Ship" services for those customers needing compliance stop-gaps for their retail customers. Many manufacturers can't stop and modify their existing manufacturing centers in time to meet their customers requirements in time. The service offered by Richmond Cold Storage allows them the flexibility to methodically lay out a long term solution for their RFID needs.
