CapTech Revamps Order System for Major Wine Distributor

CapTech, a national IT consulting firm headquartered in Richmond, VA, recently completed the redesign and enhancement of The Country Vintner's sales ordering system. The Country Vintner is the nation’s second largest fine wine distributor and supports over 120 salespeople servicing retail stores and restaurants on the east coast.

The Country Vintner uses the custom order entry system to make it easy for its customers to select and order a wide variety of wines quickly.  The management team presented CapTech with a challenge: save the custom logic, developed by the firms retiring CEO, and build a new core platform to allow the company to execute its growth and acquisition initiatives.

CapTech evaluated the technology software options on the market and recommended the Microsoft .Net™ platform and Biztalk© integration broker.  Using these tools, the team created a rules-driven order processing system that replaces hard-coded business logic with configurable business rules.   The rules engine is an integral part of Biztalk© and allows rule changes to be implemented with no interruption to the end user. The new solution enables near real-time order processing which, on average, takes less than 10 seconds per transaction. This improved performance allows The Country Vintner to easily handle order volumes in excess of one thousand per day.
