CapTech University

CapTech’s mission is to help clients solve their business problems through the focused application of information technology. Our continued success in this arena requires talented people with the right technical training and excellent consulting skills.

CapTech University was created with the help of the Management Institute, the executive education division of the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond. The goal of the program is to provide a structured curriculum for employees to learn a core set of IT consulting skills.

CapTech University focuses on providing each consultant with the tools to communicate in both business terms and technological terms. The program has four courses of instruction:

  1. The Professional Consultant
  2. Enhancing Your Communication Effectiveness
  3. Effective Business Writing Skills
  4. Requirements Gathering

The program concludes with a capstone project geared toward bridging the gap between business and technology. The capstone project requires the use of the skills gained in the coursework to solve a real-world business problem using information technology. CapTech University students tackle these problems in small teams and each team is evaluated on the solution they develop. The project culminates in a formal presentation of the team’s proposed solution to an executive board composed of senior managers and CapTech principals. Some of the solutions presented to the board have now made their way into CapTech’s own internal systems and processes and been featured in quarterly company meetings.

In the long run, CapTech University enhances employee morale by bonding consultants together through a demanding shared experience. It also guarantees that our consultants have a core set of skills that allow them to analyze and solve problems in the Information Technology field. Furthermore, it ensures that CapTech consultants have a consistent body of knowledge for the follow-upon courses defined in our employee development and training program.
