A major worldwide provider of power generation equipment and services was challenged by the number of disparate systems retaining critical business data. The organization sought to build a secured single source of "truth" for the data. Specifically, they needed to consolidate and integrate the data from four separate systems into a single secured database. This client was also plagued with data quality and reconciliation issues which undermined the overall confidence in the data and presented risks to any potential solution.
Solution:
CapTech was able to identify key data exchange and integration processes that could be leveraged to highlight data that could not be adequately reconciled during the loading of the data warehouse. Specifically, CapTech leveraged the knowledge gained from the data exchange and integration processes to design a web-based data stewardship tool that enabled both automated and manual reconciliation of the data being integrated. Features of this web-based data stewardship application included:
Automatic detection of matching values that were not detected during the data exchange and integration processes.
Manual update of data to allow records to be reprocessed after the data stewardship review was completed.
Custom search enabled to facilitate accurate data matching.
Integration of data steward tools with data exchange and integration to permanently correct the error.
Notifications when specific conditions were met.
Tools:
Informatica 7.1.5
Win SQL and TOAD for Oracle
Oracle 11g Data Base
Results:
Enabled the business to take ownership of the data through effective data stewardship and thus ensure data quality throughout the organization.
Increased the overall confidence in the data by improving the overall data quality.
