A California
healthcare provider that handles claims processing for a variety of Medicare
and Medicaid clients was interested in increasing the scope of their business
to include care management functionality. All aspects of the client’s lines
of business had data that must be tracked and managed.
To move their business
forward, the client decided to initiate a data warehouse project that would include
claims, member, provider, and care management data. The client was aware
of pending data quality issues, non-standard formats, and a lack of in-house
knowledge to complete the job themselves. The client engaged CapTech to
help develop a comprehensive strategy and implementation plan to assess and meet
their current and future data management needs.
Solution:
CapTech provided a
team of consultants to gather information, evaluate the current system, and
recommend a strategic data approach to meet the client’s future needs. Through
extensive technical and business-focused interviews, CapTech determined the
core challenges facing the client on a day-to-day basis. CapTech reviewed
the existing data implementation to ascertain the client’s current capabilities
and identify areas for improvement. CapTech also performed an evaluation
of existing software-as-a-service (SaaS) vendors that sell healthcare solutions
to determine whether any of them would meet the client’s needs. Through
their research, CapTech determined the client would be best served by a
custom-implemented, on-site solution providing various real-time views of business
data.
Based on their
extensive healthcare and data management experience, CapTech created a future
state that addressed both the future government regulations the healthcare
company would be facing, as well as the need to move all other systems and
processes forward. In addition, CapTech provided an implementation
roadmap enabling the client to improve on their existing infrastructure and add
new capabilities where necessary. The
final phased roadmap was fully embraced by the client, who immediately began
making plans to implement.
Tools:
Microsoft SQL Server 2008
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Integration Services
Results:
The client gained a more detailed understanding of
their current data management capabilities and gaps.
The client was presented with a concrete future state
vision and actionable implementation roadmap enabling them to attain their
strategic vision.
By performing this comprehensive strategic analysis in
a tight time frame (under four weeks), CapTech enabled the client to begin
executing against their strategic goals much sooner than anticipated.
