Mobile Fitness Portal

Business Case:

A high-end fitness club located in major cities such New York and Los Angeles had previously implemented a BlackBerry application for reserving classes and equipment, finding locations, and tracking fitness goals.  In response to competitive pressures and the iPhone’s increasing popularity, the club wanted to enhance their mobile fitness portal offering to include a custom-developed iPhone application.

Solution:

CapTech engineered a framework to quickly enable the iPhone to invoke REST-based services (Representational State Transfer) over the Internet. The Application leveraged the iPhone’s unique user interface to provide a rich user experience enabling users to search and register for classes, select favorites, reserve equipment, as well as allowing the client an easy way to set and track workout goals.  Clients can also use integrated map and GPS functionality to find nearby fitness clubs.  The application also allows clients to invite any of their contacts to visit a club as their guest.

Tools:
  • iPhone SDK
  • CapTech's iPhone REST toolkit
  • Microsoft .NET and WCF REST framework
Results:
  • Enhanced Club’s premium brand image
  • Allowed frequent travelers to maintain workout schedules while traveling
  • Increased fitness class utilization
