Cyclers illuminating the night sky with glowing arm bands. Spectators and other participants waving branded neon sticks and tossing glow balls. A new app, filling the route with streaming music. Seven times the live donations as in the previous year. CapTech was happy and pleased to get to be a part of the Atlanta Moon Ride 2019, helping turn insights and ideas into action.

As innovators with an insatiable appetite to make something great even better, and as the event’s presenting sponsor for the second year in a row, CapTech recognized an opportunity to connect and entertain riders and event goers.

The Moon Ride, organized in 2013, supports Bert’s Big Adventure. This local non-profit organization provides an all-expenses-paid, five-day vacation to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families.

So of course, the app also needed a way to make donating quick and easy, with an on-the-spot ability to raise funds for the kids.

Gearing Up Giving and Good Fun

CapTech delivered the app, and after it became available on iTunes and Google Play ahead of the June 21, 2019 event, nearly a quarter of the registered users downloaded the application.

And that special donation feature? It brought in an additional $3500 on top of pre-race money raised — roughly seven times the amount amassed live at the event in previous years.

Cruising Towards Next Year

The relationship between CapTech and the Atlanta Moon Ride continues to strengthen as we look forward to creatively engaging event participants and attendees next year and beyond.

To start, for 2020 we envision a geolocator component that allows friends and family to easily find each other before, during, and after the race (after all, those glow sticks can only go so far).

And for those who don’t do bikes, new and different ways to get non-riders more involved in the event and its supporting activities continue to be topics of lively discussions and brainstorming sessions.
