Summary
CapTech partnered with a Top 3 quick-service restaurant (QSR) company to transform its supply chain operations through advanced data engineering and analytics. Initially engaged for data governance, CapTech expanded its role after identifying critical gaps in a competitor’s delivery. By assembling a multidisciplinary team and leveraging technologies like Databricks, dbt, and Anomalo, CapTech consolidated siloed supply chain data into a single source of truth.
Challenge
A Top 3 QSR client was facing significant operational and financial headwinds due to a fractured and antiquated supply chain data ecosystem. To right the ship, they needed to enhance traceability, improve delivery performance, and enable data-driven decision-making for its supply chain operations. After a previous vendor failed to meet expectations, the client turned to CapTech to deliver a scalable, high-quality data solution.
Approach
CapTech leveraged Databricks to transform the client's supply chain operations in two key ways. First, our team used it as a development platform for designing, validating, and debugging robust data pipelines—ensuring that data from disparate sources was seamlessly consolidated into a unified supply chain model. Second, the curated tables in Databricks became a trusted source of inputs for the client's reporting tools, enabling real-time analytics and actionable insights for critical business decisions.
By re-architecting the data model and implementing rigorous data quality frameworks, CapTech delivered a unified and resilient system that aligned engineering and analytics teams around a clear and maintainable architecture. This approach not only provided real-time delivery performance tracking and improved traceability (including targeted product recalls) but also helped rebuild stakeholder confidence after the previous vendor fell short.
Results
Our efforts enabled the client to improve operational efficiency with features such as algorithmic suggested ordering, reduce food waste through targeted recalls, and achieve significant cost savings in contract negotiations. Our specific deliverables included:
- Unified Data Model: Built a comprehensive supply chain data model using Databricks and dbt, consolidating siloed data into a single source of truth across suppliers, distributors, and restaurants.
- Real-Time Analytics: Enabled real-time insights to support critical business use cases such as on-time, in-full delivery tracking and order replenishment at the restaurant level.
- Improved Traceability: Reduced waste and enhanced traceability by enabling targeted product recalls, eliminating the need for full-truck disposals.
- Data Quality Framework: Established a machine learning–driven data quality framework with Anomalo to monitor and triage anomalies in third-party data feeds.
- Strategic Partnership: Fostered long-term client trust, positioning CapTech as the preferred delivery partner for data, analytics, and program support, with ongoing work in product-based delivery models.
The project’s success led to ongoing collaboration, positioning CapTech as a trusted partner in the QSR Company's continued journey toward data-driven innovation.
