This November, as a part of STEM Day 2017, two Colorado CapTechers lent their skills to help out Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado. STEM day is an opportunity for Little Brothers and Sisters to learn about STEM careers and participate in hands-on STEM activities. Those who attended the event were rotated though various stations and participated in different hands-on STEM related activities, demonstrations, or experiments.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado is an organization where community members are paired with children in need of mentorship. This particular event seemed a perfect fit for CapTech, given our rich experience in technology and our passion to give back to our community, which is a major goal of our Denver office.

Jill Palkoner, one of the CapTech participants, described her experience at the event, "My booth activity involved creating ciphers and as [one student] worked her way through the activity and learned how to code and decode messages, she didn't want to stop!… It was amazing to see a child light up when exposed to a medium of communication that she felt comfortable with using."

She added, "This was such a fun event to participate in, not only did we get to work hands on with members of the community, we worked on awesome projects and talked Science, Technology, Engineering and Math all day. The participants and BBBS were so grateful for our participation, but honestly it was just a lot of fun."
