CapTech Swing Challenge Drives Insight at TechBridge Golf Fundraiser


Atlanta-based TechBridge, an organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty through the innovative use of technology to transform nonprofits, has partnered with CapTech to bring next-gen data and analytics to its annual Tee It Up For TechBridge tournament. Now in its 14th year, the tournament connects senior IT executives and technology industry leaders for a round of golf with all proceeds benefiting TechBridge programs.

, CapTech identified an opportunity to showcase how technology is evolving the game while creating a unique experience for players. We used a Mevo FlightScope, a radar-based launch monitor, to measure tee shots on the long drive hole. The monitor captured metrics including club speed, ball spin rate, carry distance and shot trajectory, and recorded a video of each participant’s shot.

The data was then aggregated and participants received a customized Tableau dashboard comparing their swing metrics to the field average, PGA TOUR professional golfer Harris English, and CapTech Principal Jon Bradway.

“There’s been an explosion in consumer golf technology, with tools like the pros use now available to recreational golfers. Many players enjoyed using the FlightScope for the first time during the tournament, and even for those who have one at home, the opportunity to compare their performance to others added a fun competitive element,” said Bradway.

Georgia native and CapTech Golf Ambassador Harris English offered his thoughts on the importance of data in golf. “Technology is evolving the game at all levels. I use it every single day out there on the TOUR.” Encouraging local tech leaders to come out for the tournament, he added, “It’ll be fun to compare your swing to mine and see how technology can raise your game.”

Over 200 executives participated in the tournament, held in mid-April. “This was our first time doing anything like the Swing Challenge,” said Bradway. “We look forward to building on what we learned and expanding players’ insights to support other non-profits in the future.
